Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Water is associated with feeling, memory and emotional connection. Cancer initiates care; Scorpio sustains emotional depth; Pisces adapts through empathy and imagination.
Elements are symbolic categories in Western astrology. They do not measure physical composition or establish personality scientifically.
| Sign | Typical dates | Modality | Ruler |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancer | Jun 21 – Jul 22 | Cardinal | Moon |
| Scorpio | Oct 23 – Nov 21 | Fixed | Mars (traditional), Pluto (modern) |
| Pisces | Feb 19 – Mar 20 | Mutable | Jupiter (traditional), Neptune (modern) |
One element, three modalities
Each element contains one cardinal sign (initiating), one fixed sign (sustaining) and one mutable sign (adapting). Cancer is cardinal; Scorpio is fixed; Pisces is mutable. This is how the tradition distinguishes signs that share an element.
Does sharing an element mean compatibility?
The three water signs are 120° apart in the zodiac: a trine by sign. Astrology traditionally associates that geometry with ease, but a Sun-sign pairing cannot predict a relationship. Compare the actual birth charts with the synastry calculator or browse the compatibility chart.
Is my whole chart water?
A Sun sign describes one placement. Your Moon, Ascendant and planets may be in other elements. The birth chart calculator shows those placements individually.
