Frequently asked questions
Which planets are retrograde right now?
Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are retrograde as of Oct 25, 2026.
What does retrograde mean?
A planet is retrograde when, seen from Earth, it appears to move backward through the zodiac. It is an optical effect of Earth and the planet moving at different speeds in their orbits; the planet itself never reverses.
What is a retrograde shadow?
The pre-shadow begins when a planet first reaches the degree where it will later turn direct; the post-shadow ends when it finally passes the degree where it turned retrograde. Astrologers treat these weeks as the lead-in and aftermath of the retrograde.
How often do planets go retrograde?
Mercury three or four times a year for about three weeks; Venus every 19 months for about six weeks; Mars every 26 months for about ten weeks; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto every year for four to five months.
