Frequently asked questions
What was the Moon phase on my birthday?
Enter your birth date and city above. The phase depends on the angle between the Sun and Moon at the moment you were born, so we show the phase name, how much of the Moon was lit and how many days had passed since the New Moon.
Do I need my birth time?
Usually not. The Moon moves about 12° a day relative to the Sun, so a named phase lasts three to four days. If the phase changed on your birthday, we say so and ask for the time.
What are the eight Moon phases?
New Moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, Full Moon, waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent. Each covers 45° of the Moon's angle to the Sun, about 3.7 days.
What does my birth Moon phase mean in astrology?
Following astrologer Dane Rudhyar, people born in the waxing half (New to Full) are associated with building and instinct, and those born in the waning half with reflection, sharing and release. The phase meanings are listed below.
