How common is each rising sign?
Each figure is the share of a day the sign spends on the Ascendant at that latitude, which is also the share of births with that rising sign if births are spread evenly through the day. Signs near Aries rise quickly in the Northern Hemisphere; signs near Libra rise slowly. South of the equator the pattern reverses.

Frequently asked questions
What is a rising sign?
The rising sign, or Ascendant, is the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at the moment and place of your birth. It changes about every two hours on average, so it needs an exact birth time.
Which rising sign is the rarest?
It depends on latitude. In New York the shortest-rising signs are Aries and Pisces; in Sydney the pattern flips and Libra and Virgo are shortest. Near the equator all twelve rise for between 1 h 51 min and 2 h 08 min.
Which rising sign is the most common?
In New York, Leo and Scorpio rise longest, each for over 2 h 33 min a day. In London the leaders are Libra and Virgo.
Does the time of year change my rising sign?
The sign rising at sunrise is roughly your Sun sign, and each sign rises about four minutes earlier every day. So the time of day a given sign rises shifts through the year, but the length of time it takes to rise at a place stays the same.
